Ultimate List of 45 Power BI Hotkeys to Triple Your Productivity

This list of Power BI hotkeys and keyboard shortcuts is going to speed up your Power BI use big time.

I love a good list of shortcuts because I use them all the time and there's always one or two more that I don't know about.

Especially when it comes to little-known ones (like number 41??!)

Anyway - use this list at risk....at risk of increasing your efficiency. 

 

Navigation and General Tasks

  1. Ctrl + N: Create a new report.
  2. Ctrl + O: Open an existing report.
  3. Ctrl + S: Save the current report.
  4. Ctrl + C: Copy selected visuals or text.
  5. Ctrl + X: Cut selected visuals or text.
  6. Ctrl + V: Paste copied or cut visuals or text.
  7. Ctrl + Z: Undo the last action.
  8. Ctrl + Y: Redo the last undone action.
  9. Tab: Move forward through the user interface elements.
  10. Shift + Tab: Move backward through the user interface elements.
  11. Ctrl + G: Group selected visuals.
  12. Ctrl + Shift + G: Ungroup selected visuals.
  13. Ctrl + D: Duplicate selected visuals.
  14. Delete: Remove selected visuals.
  15. Ctrl + F: Open the Find dialog.
  16. Ctrl + H: Open the Replace dialog.

 

Data Modeling and Query Editor

  1. Ctrl + E: Open the Power Query Editor.
  2. Ctrl + L: Load data to the data model.
  3. Ctrl + R: Refresh data in the data model.
  4. Ctrl + T: Create a new calculated table.
  5. Ctrl + Shift + T: Create a new table from a query.
  6. Ctrl + Shift + F: Format a column.
  7. Ctrl + Shift + M: Edit the M code in Power Query.

 

Visual Interaction

  1. Ctrl + Shift + Click: Select multiple visuals.
  2. Ctrl + Click: Add or remove a visual from the selection.
  3. Ctrl + Alt + Click: Select all visuals associated with a field.
  4. Ctrl + Shift + S: Take a screenshot of the selected visual(s).
  5. Ctrl + P: Export the report as a PDF.
  6. Ctrl + F11: Enter full-screen mode.
  7. Ctrl + . (Period): Open the context menu for the selected visual.

 

Visual Formatting

  1. Ctrl + K: Add a bookmark.
  2. Ctrl + Shift + K: Manage bookmarks.
  3. Ctrl + M: Add a new measure.
  4. Ctrl + Shift + C: Copy the format of a visual.
  5. Ctrl + Shift + V: Paste the format to another visual.
  6. Ctrl + Shift + B: Bold selected text.
  7. Ctrl + Shift + I: Italicize selected text.
  8. Ctrl + Shift + U: Underline selected text.
  9. Ctrl + Shift + 1-6: Apply conditional formatting (1 for lowest, 6 for highest).

 

Data Exploration and Querying

  1. Ctrl + F2: Focus on the filter pane.
  2. Ctrl + 1-6: Apply filter type (1 for basic, 2 for advanced, etc.).
  3. Ctrl + Shift + 1-6: Clear filter type.
  4. Ctrl + / (Forward Slash): Open the Smart Search dialog.
  5. Alt + Left Arrow: Go back to the previous page or drillthrough state.
  6. Alt + Right Arrow: Go forward to the next page or drillthrough state.
